I think Weis should keep his job if Notre Dame wins out or even if they finish 8-4. Whoever (mostly Notre Dame fans) had these inflated expectations this year for Notre Dame was wrong to have them. It is hard in this day and age of college football to finish with 9 to 11 wins with that schedule Notre Dame plays.
As for Navy. Any chance that Ken Niumatalolo (hope I spelled it right) is now a hot commodity to become a head coach at a BCS conference school? Navy did almost beat Ohio St this year so obviously they were no walk in the park for Notre Dame.

It's possible that ND losses out. Pitt, UConn and Stanford all tough games.

Ok, one down. Still two tough games left. Uconn is not a gimme. They gave Cincy all they could handle a couple of weeks ago. And well ask SC and Oregon about Stanfurd. I'm pretty sure Harbaugh wants to hang 50 on Weis and officially end his career at ND. Who knows, if Furd doesn't ante up to a salary comparable to what Tedford is making maybe he could be the next ND coach.

Uh oh. Not good for them fighting Irish. Hopefully Charlie keeps his job though. I love beating his team every year.

ESPN.com:
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was punched in the face by an irate fan outside a South Bend restaurant early Sunday morning and has a swollen eye, a person briefed on the incident said.
That person said Clausen was "sucker-punched" by a fan as he left an establishment after having dinner with his parents.
The fan allegedly said something to Clausen and/or a female acquaintance.
The source said the injury is not expected to keep Clausen from playing this weekend against Stanford.

Some fans taking things a little to far now? You don't need to punch a player because your team lost. Pathetic.

Clausen is not the problem with ND. The slow Irish defense is. I have a feeling Stanford is going to put Weis out of his misery.

The problem with Notre Dame is that most years the schedule they play is not going to be easy. Plus they have played in too many close games all season. When a team is playing that many close games they are bound to lose some of them.

They play practically the same schedule every year. Check the 80/90's when they played FSU and Miami along with the usuals. They are the ones not willing to join a conference.

Actually since Dan Devine resigned from Notre Dame they have really only had one good coach. Since 1980 here are the head coaches winning percentage.
Gerry Faust 30-26-1 .535 Lou Holtz 100-30-2 .765 Bob Davie 35-25 .583 Ty Willingham 21-15 .583 Charlie Weis 35-26 .574
Since Holtz left they have just been winning less than 60% of their games.
Notre Dame just needs to find the right coach to get the porgram back on track. Just like Oklahoma had to do with Stoops, Texas with Mack Brown, and USC with Pete Carroll.

Other then tradition, Notre Dame is a hard sell. Stoops can sell low academic standards, Brown can sell the fine town of Austin and Carroll can sell them the fruits of being the only pro football team in Tinseltown.
